News!

Here are two important pieces of CW-related news.

(1) The text of The Chapel of the Thorn will be ready to send to the publisher in a day or two! I have finished editing and re-editing the text. Three people have checked my transcript against the MS in the Wade. I have drafted and re-written my introductory essay; several scholars have read and commented on it. Today I will be re-writing it one final time (here’s hoping). I have received the gracious permission of Grevel Lindop and David Llewellyn Dodds to include writings of theirs in the edition, and have typed and edited those. The notes are in good shape. I have to tidy up the bibliography. But it should all be ready to send to the publisher tomorrow or Monday, and then we can expect to see the publication in six months! Here is the current table of contents:

Preface (Grevel Lindop)
Introduction (Sørina Higgins)
The Chapel of the Thorn
Notes
Appendix (David Llewellyn Dodds)
Bibliography
About the Author
About the Editor

(2) Grevel Lindop, CW’s biographer, reported to me on Sunday that he had just completed cutting and polishing the text of his biography, Charles Williams: The Last Magician! He still has to arrange some of the illustrations, correct the references (since the Bodleian and the Wade have both changed their call numbers since he did his research), and get permissions from several estates (including TS Eliot and CS Lewis). But the biography is essentially finished, so we should be seeing it in about a year!

Great news! The biography was first announced in 2007, I think… It’s been 7 years!

And congratulations with finishing “The Chapel of the Thorn”, of course!
